Bert Jansch - Crimson Moon

One of Bert Jansch’s later recordings, ‘Crimson Moon’ is some of his finest work and sees the musician at the top of his game. Earth Recordings revisits the album on its 20th Anniversary with its first ever standalone cut to vinyl.
Originally released in 2000, there is a brooding resonance in ‘Crimson Moon’ centred around his accomplished guitar style that brings his contemplative songwriting to the fore. Traditional ballads have touches of jazz and blues adorned by contributions from guitarists Johnny Marr, Bernard Butler and Johnny “Guitar” Hodge along with guest vocals from Bert’s wife Loren Auerbach (‘My Donald’).
The addition of electric guitar subtly compliments Bert’s percussive fingerpicking bringing new depth to his compositions.

KnightressM1 - Lock & Key

I've finally got a chance to chat with Sabrina, unfortunately not face to face but local covid-19 restrictions dictated a virtual approach. Hopefully sometime soon I'll be able to see Sabrina perform live and chat.

Q: How did you first get into music?
I feel I was brought into this world to be in music. Since I was very young, all I wanted was to be in music. My parents told me I was humming tunes as a baby before I could even speak. When I was 6 or 7, I started writing poetry and short stories, which then lead me to song writing. At the age of 10, I started taking piano lessons and at 15 or 16, I started learning guitar. I won my first singing competition at 14 performing “One Day” by Simple Plan and that was when I knew I wanted to become a professional singer. My cousin introduced me to Green Day’s music and when I heard their “American Idiot” album, I then realized I wanted to be a rock singer.

Q: Did someone inspire you to make music the way you do?
That is a very good question. Thinking back when I first started writing, I always liked writing my feelings down on a piece of paper, so I believe that is how I started to write lyrics.

Q. Is your inner world feeding your creativity?
I would say so. I mostly write about feelings, life in general and what we go through. It is not just all about me, but I also write about what others go through.

Q. What is your creative process like?
When I start to write a song, I think of a title on what I want the song to be about. Then I grab my guitar and start strumming and think of lyrics to go along with it. I don't follow a certain method or structure. Every time I write I do things differently, like I might have the lyrics down before the melody, or the melody before the lyrics, or for the lyrics have the chorus written, before the verse. Normally, I just write what I feel and let it flow.

Q. How would you describe the music that you typically create?
All thought I also write slow songs, most of my music is hard rock, edgy, raspy and has a lot of attitude.

Q. What is your favorite song to perform?
I love to perform all of my songs, but "One Chance" would be the first one I would go to.

Q. Which famous musicians do you admire?
I love a lot of musicians. To mention a few would be Green Day, Bon Jovi, Billy Idol, Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan, Kelly Clarkson, Michelle Branch, which have either influenced me and my music or I have enjoyed performing their music.

Q. Who would you most like to collaborate with? There are a lot of musicians I would love to collaborate with. My dream is to work with Green Day.

Q. If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
I would love to open up for Green Day.

Q. What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
I have always wanted to be a detective. I love watching crime shows and try to solve the mystery.

Q. How does your work comment on current social or political issues?
My music doesn't have anything relating to politics. I really do not like politics and what is going on in the world right now.

Q. What’s next for you?
Because of the pandemic that we are facing now, touring to perform live on stage can't happen, but when it does, I will be back on the road. I am doing a lot of writing, online and mainstream radio interviews, as well as online magazine interviews.

Q. What is one message you would give to your fans?
In life you dream about accomplishing something you really want and then you realize how much work you have to do to get it. All you need to do is build up your confidence and believe in yourself. Go for it! Pursue it! Believe that you will succeed! Never Give Up!

Unruly Girls - She Grew Up In A Shotgun Row

Epidemic is the brand new album for Unruly Girls, to be released on April 21st, 2020 on newborn Dirty Beach Recs. The album has been mixed and mastered by Phil Liar at Monolith Recording Studio in Vitulano (Benevento, Italy). Compared to their first album "Cruel Tales" (2017), the sound is darker, charged with emotions and psycological nuances Powderous bass lines, acid synths and spacey drumming are the perfect scenery for their garage r'n'r mayhem. The title, "Epidemic", was chosen at early stages, inspired by the way music can spread beauty into the world, sweetly connecting people and nurturing new movements and ideas. In a continuous flow, the tracks float between punk electronic, noisy rock vibes and funk rhythmics, while lyrics might seems labyrinths free to wander, in search of uncatchable meanings.

Darman - Pubblicità Riflesso

Darman is the moniker of Dario Mangiacasale, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Turin, Italy.
While influenced by psychedelic rock, and capable of delivering mind-expanding free form suites, he also knows his way as for postpunk and 90s alternative rock, which emerges in his powerful, well crafted guitar songs.
Mixed at Studio X in Berlin by Dirk Feistel (known for having mixed the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), Necessità Interiore is about synesthesia, it's the celebration of blending between sense organs and different arts. In the album Darman explores particularly the intertwining and mutual feedback between music and painting.

The Backlash - Everybody But Me

The Backlash formed in Milan during Spring 2013, allthough the four members were all born in the South of Italy. Being the winners in a new bands music contest, they got immediately the chance to play big stages like Tunnel and Alcatraz, establishing themselves as a solid name in Milan's underground music scene.
Spotted by "Dj Henry” (aka Enrico Lezzeri, a well known name for Italian Northern Soul and Mod fans), they got signed by his own RocketMan Records. “3rd Generation”, their first EP, was a collection of six tracks already popular wth live audiences. It got rave reviews, and earned to The Backlash several live dates, in Italy, Spain, France and the UK, enclosing a support for The KVB.
In August 2016 the band decided to take a break from touring, to record their debut full-lenght “Mindtrap”, released in 2018, and promoted with support slots in Milan for We Are Scientists and The Academic, plus several appearances at In A State Of Flux, the leading itinerant festival for italian shoegaze scene. Wanting to be more in control of their schedule, and to reduce the timeframe between recordings and release, The Backlash then concentrated on building their own space and studio: the Right Bright Side.

Jester in Jail - Oh! Feelings

Teenager indie brit-rock trio Jester In Jail just released new video for "Oh, Feelings!". The song was included in their debut album, released in Deecember by Seahorse Recordings. It's a danceable tune with party vibes, in the style of The Rakes, in sharp contrast with lyrics, about self-isolation inside one's own feelings when everything around seems wrong.
Jester in Jail is an experience of Lights, Shadows and Dark. The band started early 2018 and has in its bag one EP "The Worst is yet to Come!" (2018) and an 11-tracks LP "Memories Faded & Broken Hearts", released on the 20th of December 2019.
All three Jesters dedicate themselves to song-writing and, thanks to their different musical backgrounds, write songs full of shades and contrasts, where singers' voices intertwine, one warm and deep, the other high and sharp.

Alienbaby Collective - Degenerate Moon

Alienbaby Collective started with both the incessant need to make songs and sounds and as an experiment with recording when all you have is a half-dead laptop and the cheapest audiointerface. From there it became a way of trying to create something that was of the moment, to capture a mood, a glimpse of Now. F I S H B O W L and T E R R E S T R I A L were both made within the same year and accidentally tell a story in two parts of that specific piece of time.

Johanna Kuvaja - Shower

Nordic vocalist Johanna Kuvaja presents her new single 'Back For Good', a heartfelt ballad that harkens back to the feel of Madonna's seminal 'Crazy For You'. This new single follows on the trail of Kuvaja's debut single 'Shower', markedly contrasting from its upbeat catchy vibe à la Aqua, Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue.
